Hummingbird Nest

We first noticed this hummingbird nest on the side of our house a few weeks ago. The babies are now big enough that we can see them clearly above the rim of the nest. The look very squished! For reference the nest is built on a coax cable coming from our satelite dish that is about the diameter of a McDonalds drinking straw. The parents don't seem to spend any actual time in the nest and just visit to feed the babies. This isn't quite as exciting as deer in the front yard like the Whites have but we thought it was pretty cool.

I don't know which I am more impressed with--

The hummingbird's nest-building skills...or your camera's ability to really zoom in and stay in focus!

Keep us posted on the progress of the baby birds. I wonder how long they will be in the nest? If the nest falls down, be sure to keep it and photograph it next to something so we can get an idea of the relative size.

Very cute. We just found a wasp nest under our eaves...not so cute.

How charming. We don't get the hummingbirds around here. I don't know why... We did however catch our first mouse for the season. We will keep a death count in case you are intersted.

Hummingbirds are my favorite! We saw a nest at Rhonda's mother's condo last month, but it was empty. Keep us posted.
